Nicosia, also known as Lefkosia is the capital city and largest city of the island country of Cyprus. The city is also a fantastic base for launching yourself out on sightseeing trips into north Cyprus, which is home to some of the island's most important historic places to visit such as the fairy-tale castle of St. Hilarion and the extensive ruins of Ancient Salamis. Nicosia's most defining features are its impressive Venetian walls, which encircle the old city. The old town of Famagusta (also called Gazimaǧusa), riddled with crumbling Gothic buildings, is the most beautifully evocative town on the island.

The city, which is the center of the island in terms of culture, trade, industry and transportation is divided into two by the Green Line boundary. While the part of the city within the walls is home to beautiful historical buildings and artifacts, the part outside the walls opens the doors of an active lifestyle. It is known that the walls, which are the most important fabric of the city, were built in 1567 by the Venetians for defensive purposes. The city, which is known to have been first settled in the Neolithic Age, is also one of the hottest places on the island. Famous for its eucalyptus trees, Nicosia is known for its diversity of vegetation. The city, which hosts many ethnic cultures, especially Turks, Greeks and Armenians, draws attention with different architectures. Due to its cultural and touristic texture, Nicosia offers many cuisines, and delicious tastes from Turkish, Greek and world cuisines can be found together. The city promises pleasant moments with its sea, sun and beaches as well as nightlife, casinos and entertainment.
